Sustainability
Graaff Fruit is committed to supporting methods that are sustainable, that generate the least amount of wastage and that preserves the environment.
It’s a principle that can be seen in the way we manage our people, our partnerships and our farming practices. Recycling is engrained in our culture and our staff is educated in saving energy and how to minimise waste.
Regular audits are done to monitor just how sustainable and planet-friendly we are. We look at how much carbon is being produced, how much electricity is being used and what impact the production per ton of fruit, from the farm to the market, has on the environment. Our carbon footprint, although not 100% neutral, is off-set by the number of trees we maintain and plant every year and we’re continuously working towards reducing it even further. We aim to be carbon neutral by 2012.
on the forefront of varietal innovation
Every year we travel the world over in search of new cultivars that would be suitable for our climate and soil. It keeps us at the forefront of innovation. We have tested over 400 new varieties each year we test more.
